If everyone played the ukulele the world would be a better place

Music is Good Medicine

Waiakea Intermediate School Hilo, Big Island

November 19, 2007

Jake hadn’t been to Hilo in a whole year so the Waiakea schools were tremendously excited to see him.  Thank you June Niimi from the YMCA Hilo for coordinating the visit to Waiakea Intermediate School, home of the Titans. The night before this visit, Jake had a show in Hilo and some of the students were actually at the concert to get a preview of Jake’s playing.

When Jake played for the students at their school, it was especially special for them since it was a more personalized show and he even gave them words of advice.  After Jake played some songs, he stressed the importance of keeping promises and always following through with commitments.  He told the students that if they commit to something, they should follow through with it and finish their agreement until the end.  Jake had a question and answer session with the students and one student requested Jake to sing.

After Jake attempted to please them with a vocal tune, he continued his message and encouraged all of them to stay away from drugs because it will do them no good and will take them away from the things in life they want to do.  After this program, Jake set off the Waiakea’s High School where the students were patiently waiting in anticipation.
