Waiakea High School Hilo, Big Island
November 19, 2007After Jake’s performance at Waiakea’s Intermediate school, Jake headed to Waiakea High School for another performance. Since Jake hadn’t been to Hilo in a year, Waiakea High School showed their welcome and anticipation to finally see Jake again. Waiakea High School, home of the Warriors, was twice recognized as the top U.S Secondary Schools as selected by the U.S Department of Education. Thank you June Niimi from the YMCA Hilo for organizing the visits to both Waiakea’s High and Intermediate Schools.
June’s son, Traci, actually attends Waiakea High School and joined Jake in some tunes with his bass. Jake’s brother, Bruce, also accompanied Jake on this visit and all three of them had fun performing together for the school who cheered them and thoroughly enjoyed what they heard.
The student’s favorite song, by far, was Jake’s version of “While my Guitar Gently Weeps”. After Jake played this song, the students evidently loved it and were screaming and applauding like crazy. Jake left the students with words of encouragement to follow their passions and dreams and never loosing sight of them. Again, mahalo June for these school visits!
