If everyone played the ukulele the world would be a better place

Music is Good Medicine

Point Loma High School - San Diego, CA

February 09, 2010

MIGM visited Point Loma High School, a Peninsula community of San Diego California. A very ethnically diverse group of students filled the Performing Arts Center Theater on a misty morning, as Jake spoke about his passion and history with the ukulele.

Jake played through a number of different songs showing the range and ability of the ukulele to achieve many sounds other than the traditional Hawaiian swing. Speaking of his role in the high school drum line and how that influenced he playing techniques today, but stating that the most important part of his expression was allowing his spirit to speak through him and the instrument. Feeling the most joy when he performs he knows he is following the right path for his life.

He embraced the students in knowing that the challenges of being a student in today’s world is far more difficult than it was when he was growing up, and encouraged each of them to seek opportunities to make them happy.

“Music is my gift to heal, influence and inspire” and to find their own avenue of expression is a goal they should all look to achieve. A special thanks to Jenny Garham for her help with this event.
