Pearlridge Rotary Club – Oahu, HI
April 02, 2010April 2, 2010 was an exciting day as Jake Shimabukuro and MIGM attended Pearlridge Rotary Club’s weekly Friday meeting. Jake was honored to be the guest speaker for this memorable day.
Jake performed various songs for the Rotarians such as “Piano Forte, Sakura Sakura, In My Life, and Annon.” The Rotarians were so blessed by the sweet sound of the Ukulele. Jake also had the opportunity to share a few inspirational personal stories.
He shared that while growing up he was undersized and unable to excel in the world of sports. This dilemma guided him towards the Music venue, which provided many opportunities. Jake’s experience in band during high school not only helped him to develop musical skills, but a sense of discipline, focus, and teamwork as well which contributed towards his success today.
Jake always had a passion for the ukulele even when people told him he couldn’t have a career in music. He shared with the Rotarians that when others doubted him it made him work even harder to prove them wrong.
The club meeting came to a close as Jake played the National Anthem on the ukulele. Jake and MIGM were so honored to be a part of this rotary club meeting and to support their mission to improve the community.
