Maunalani Nursing and Rehabilitation Center –Oahu. HI

April 30, 2010

Up the mountain and around the bend to Maunalani Nursing and Rehabilitation Center we went. As soon as we arrived we were not only greeted by the beautiful view, but by the friendly and helpful staff as well.

Jake started off with the well know Judy Garland song, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” But Jake really caught the audience’s attention with his flamenco number, “Let’s Dance.” He even woke up some residents from their naps.

Watching the residents so engaged in Jake’s performance was amazing. . While he was playing “Sakura Sakura” the residents were so mesmerized. He connected so well with them, sharing stories of his travels and his life.

The residents got a treat when Jonathan, a son of one of the residents, performed with Jake. Jonathan accompanied Jake on Ukulele and did vocals as well. They wrapped up their jam session with the classic “Wipeout,” which really excited the residents.

The Resident Council of the Maunalani Nursing and Rehabilitation Center had a surprise for Jake when they presented him with a plaque, honoring him as the “First Honorary Friend of Maunalani.” What a great way to commemorate this special performance. After, Jake and the MIGM team joined some of the residents for some refreshments. Jake even got to spend some one on one time with them.

Jake and the MIGM team would like to thank Sai Chantavy and the residents and staff of the Maunalani Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. It was truly an amazing and rewarding experience.
