If everyone played the ukulele the world would be a better place

Music is Good Medicine

Maui Youth Services - Maui, Hawaii

January 23, 2009

The Maui Youth and Family Services provide a range of behavioral and mental health programs that work together to wrap appropriate services around children and families.  Their goal is to “build better lives with Hawaii’s families” and provide services that will aid them in their struggles.  A big mahalo to Art Vento from the Maui Cultural Center for assembling this visit.

Jake’s purpose in this trip was to inspire the families and grant them words of encouragement through their harsh times.  He shared with them his own personal struggles growing up and how he handled his dilemmas.  He told them to keep in sight the things that matter most to them and hold on to their hope.  During Jake’s low moments, he kept close to his ukulele, which kept him going in those murky points.

Jake encouraged them to pursue whatever gives them joy in life and it will in turn give them hope and inspiration.  Again, thank you Art for organizing this experience.
