If everyone played the ukulele the world would be a better place

Music is Good Medicine

Madera Elementary – El Cerrito, CA

March 18, 2010

Music is Good Medicine visited Madera Elementary located in California on March 18, 2010. Jake had the privilege of working with PBS in addition to visiting the school.

Jake shared with the students about his intense passion for his ukulele. He stated, “Playing the ukulele is the only thing I love to do, I love it love it love it so much.” Later Jake demonstrated his passion by playing a couple of tunes entitled, “Me and Shirley T, and Piano Forte.”

As the event continued Jake inspired the students by sharing his incredible experience playing for the Queen of England, and having the opportunity to meet Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus. He credited this experience by saying it wouldn’t have happened if he hadn’t followed his passion. The students screamed and shouted as they heard this inspiring news.

Jake reminded the students that his success did not come over night. He explained to them that whatever you do in life you need to work hard, stay drug free, and have fun. He mentioned that he practiced 5-8 hours a day, and that he always enjoyed himself while playing. Along with these three key points he encouraged the students to listen to their parents and teachers.

The event ended as Jake dazzled the students by playing at an incredible speed. The students cheered and screamed for Jake to play faster. Jake took a moment to stretch and then tested his skills and played as fast as he could. After an amazing day Jake thanked the students for being a great audience.
