HJCC 110th Anniversary - Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce Annual Membership Event
March 03, 2010As a member of the Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce, it was only fitting that Music Is Good Medicine would participate in their annual membership event. The Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce represents some of Honolulu’s major businesses and industry leaders. HJCC’s main focus is to seek solutions to Hawaii’s community and business problems. With their mission as well as ours in mind, we got to work promoting our message.
This event wasn’t just any conference. It was the Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce’s 110th anniversary. With over 250 members in attendance, Music Is Good Medicine focused on spreading our message with them. During the networking session, we got to meet and interact with members, many of which were big fans of Jake.
From Jake Shimabukuro’s calm and collected exterior, one would never guess that as a child he had so much energy he could barely sit still. But as he grew older he began harnessing that energy towards playing the ukulele. He believes that music is a great vehicle for getting people excited again. He explained that through Music Is Good Medicine program, he is able to touch so many children and tell them how important to have passion & goal in their life. He also mentioned that it is important to save music and arts program in our community. After his message, Jake decided to let the music speak for itself.
Jake joked about how crazy it was that people actually paid him to do something he would have been doing anyway. But as he was playing “In My Life,” the popular Beatle’s tune, it was apparent that he was born to be a performer. He had the audience completely mesmerized; even the waiters stopped busing tables to enjoy it.
After his performance, members rushed to get a copy of his latest album as
well as meet the esteemed performer. Nothing but great words were exchanged about his performance.
Music Is Good Medicine supports our community and we value our relationships with the local businesses. We strive to improve our community and build long lasting relationships. Thank you for your continued support.
