If everyone played the ukulele the world would be a better place

Music is Good Medicine

Family Programs Hawaii – Oahu, Hawaii

December 05, 2009

The Christmas season is a special time of year where everyone should be close to their families and celebrate the spirit of giving. Unfortunately, some may not have the proper foundation they need. Family Programs Hawaii is a social service agency aimed to provide help to children and families in need of support to ensure that those people are able to receive the happiness they deserve. Family programs Hawaii held their fun-filled annual Holiday Party at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall on December 5th, and MIGM is proud to support the program by having Jake’s brother, Bruce Shimabukuro, offer free ukulele lessons to the kids and families!

About 2,000 people gathered at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall to partake in the Holiday Party festivities. Our MIGM ukulele lessons activity was a success! Tons of kids lined up at our MIGM booth eager to learn how to play ukulele and to have a general good time. Bruce Shimabukuro and friend Chris held short periodic ukulele classes throughout the wonderful event. Smiles rang from children and proud parents as Bruce and Chris continue with the lessons.

Our MIGM ukulele classes were 20-minute sessions each with a 15 minute break in-between classes. In each session, Bruce and Chris did a great job giving ukulele lessons to people from a wide range of ages and ukulele experience. Sometimes, people were so excited to learn how to play the ukulele that some classes had to start early because everyone who signed up for that specific class showed up early. Bruce also invited his friend, Biran Ishii, to play guitar along with him and give a small concert for everyone to enjoy!

As MIGM held our free ukulele lessons, a lot of other activities were happening as well. There was a band playing great live music, bean bag throwing, a cosmetics booth, awesome temporary tattoo application for the kids, and much more activities for the whole family to enjoy! MIGM had a great time and we certainly hope to kids had a great time too. The Family Programs Hawaii Holiday Party is indeed a great event, and MIGM is happy to have been a part of their program by giving back to the community.
