DFS Galleria Hawaii - Oahu, HI
July 28, 2009In the home of luxury retail catering to the traveling public, Jake makes an appearance at the DFS Galleria in Waikiki. Packed in their tight walls were hundreds of tourists and even some locals enjoying the entertainment and shopping. Jake opened with his popular Spanish-inspired tune of “Let’s Dance.” Unfortunately the beginning of the show had some technical difficulties so Jake played the first two tunes unplugged.
With technology back up and running, Jake announced his next song, “Me and Shirley T.” where screams were heard just from the title of the song. The crowd absolutely loved it. Jake also played some Japanese tunes like “Sakura Sakura” where Jake transforms his small four-string ukulele into a grand thirteen string Japanese Koto. Jake’s finale was his infamous “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” Everyone loved it so much they yelled for a hana hou! So Jake’s Grande finale was another crowd favorite, “Crazy G”.
After the performance, a flood of fans rushed to talk to Jake as he made his way to the third floor to have an autograph session. The line stretched through the entire store and each face had a huge smile on it after talking and getting a picture with Jake. A huge mahalo to June and Noriko-san from DFS for welcoming MIGM and presenting us with a generous donation that keeps our program alive!
