If everyone played the ukulele the world would be a better place

Music is Good Medicine

Boys and Girls Club - Oahu, HI

May 20, 2008

Jake prepared a music theory lesson for his visit to the Boys & Girls club of Hawaii, which is a non-profit organization that seeks to mentor and inspire Hawaii’s youth to become responsible citizens.  Thank you to Selena Ching of the Hawaii Youth Symphony for organizing this workshop and creating such a unique experience for the kids.  The children gathered in their “Clubhouse” in anticipation to hear what Jake had to say as well as play.  This group consisted of children that were from Washington Elementary as well as the Hawaii Youth Symphony.

Jake went over some basic necessities of music theory and made the workshop very interactive.  He talked to the children about following their passions and doing what they love because it makes them happy and that is how life should be lived.  There were a group of about five or six students who were especially passionate about the ukulele and were so astonished by Jake’s playing and knowledge.  Some of the students entered the workshop as an obligation but walked out with a valuable experience that they were so grateful to have gone through.  That is truly the power of music.  Again thank you to Selena Ching for providing this opportunity.
