Anthology - San Diego, CA
The California tour has begun! Being in Southern California during the winter months is very comforting and pleasant. It's a cool 72 degrees and breezy during the day, and a near shivering 40 degrees during the night. The best part though...it's always sunny! It's like the best of both worlds...cool sunny weather...absolute enjoyment.
Our day began with a eye popping 6am TV interview for the local station KINU. Jake, Mark and myself made our way out to the "Office", which is not what you would thing. The Office, as it were, is actually a small outdoor desk setup at the end of a pier near the bay. Yep, they shoot interviews and segments right on the water with the shores of San Diego in the back ground. Unreal, right?
Jake did a quick promotional segment for the San Diego shows and then it was off to Whole Foods to stock up. You know your day starts early when you arrive at the Whole Foods a good 15 minutes before they open....at 8am. Nothing like waiting in the parking lot, stomachs growling, waiting for the gem of natural foods to open their doors.
We piled on thick, organic salads and topped them off with Flax Seed powder....it was pretty tasty. Mark actually had a super good treat today...Whole Foods makes a Gluten Free Pizza out of rice bread. I don't think I have seen Mark smile that big...ever. Gluten Free Pepperoni Pizza at 8am, that's pretty hard core.
Tonight's show is at the legendary Anthology located in downtown San Diego. It's a tri-tier venue that caters to fine dining and fine music. The prefect crowd for Jake. We had two shows back to back tonight so we knew it would be a long one. Though when Jake is on stage it never seems long...it seems too short. Jake had a quick TV interview and then a few minutes to prep before the show.
They packed in a sold out house for the first show. And then, they packed in a another sold out house for the second show. Yep...both shows sold out. Sweet! Jake has been playing a pretty good set and has been mixing up a lot of his normal peaks and intense jams. We mentioned before that his rendition of Norwegian Wood utilizing his looping machine has really been a crowd favorite. And...I can honestly say that it getting better and better.
After each show Jake made his usual merch side appearance and greeted every guest that waited to see him. I love this part as you get to witness first hand each person that just experienced Jake's show come up and meet Jake for the first time.
Tomorrow we have a show in Oceanside to support the California Surf Museum. Should be another great vibe and we hope to support the Surf Museum as best we can. Rock on Jake!
