Kahilu Theatre Solo Show - Waiema, HI

Tonight is Jake's solo performance at the Kahilu Theatre. After a long day yesterday we were in the mood for some relaxing time at the hotel so we could gear up for tonights show. We met up with Mark, Jake's Tour Manager and Sound Engineer, and headed out to taste the Big Island Thai food. One of the great luxurious of staying on the Kona Coast is that you have a lot of places to dine at.

We found this Thai restaurant called Charley's...and I must say that it was super tasty. We sampled the papaya salad and everyone had their own variant of spicy Pad Thai. If you are in the Kona area and feeling some Thai food...we highly recommend it!

After lunch we had a pretty long stretch before sound check at the venue. So I think everyone enjoyed the time off and got to catch up on sleep...or if you were Mark...go swim in the ocean again.

Doing shows at the Kahilu Theatre has many perks. One of them is the delightful cast and crew that run the theatre. Would you even believe they home cook meals and bring them in for the shows and crew? It's rare that you can walk into a venue and fix yourself a plate of homemade corn chowder, beef stew, and fried saimin. It doesn't get much better than that!

Jake and Mark wrapped up a meticulous sound check just before the doors opened. I had a feeling that the sound for tonight's show was going to set the stage for Jake to just unload on the audience. About 400 guests ushered in the theatre to catch Jake's show tonight....and as I had suspected they were going to get the best of the best from Jake.

Jake played a really sensational set tonight. He mixed in a lot of new twists to his well known original tunes. If you have heard him play before you would recognize it for sure. Added to the mix was a fun and well received Beatles medley of My Life, Help and Norwegian Wood.

For  Norwegian Wood Jake has been incorporating his looping box to create a multi layered and in depth hybrid. It was amazing and the crowd just loved it. To finish it off, Jake broke out with a new cover he has been working on....Bohemian Rhapsody!

Ill save the details for when you get to see him play it....but I will say this...you are going to be floored.

This show wrapped up our four day musical adventure on the Big Island. We had spent a day sharing music with the schools, and a few days sharing music with Hawaii's local legends. I guess that is one of the beauties of touring with Jake. You get to see how music can touch people and how other musicians share the same passions. It's good for the soul...it's good medicine.
