Waimea All Stars Show - Waimea, HI
Tonight is the second show of the Waimea All Stars! Jake's set is going to take place later in the evening and we are hoping to see some collaborations take place. Before the show, the Kahilu Theatre was going to hold one more set of workshops to support the Ukulele & Slack Key Guitar Institute. Jake will be hosting his second workshop with a small group of skilled players.
Similar to the workshop held yesterday, Jake sat with three young players and worked with them on their playing ability. At the same time as the workshop, there was a special "Talk Story" session going on in the main theatre. A group of people gathered in the theatre to hear a few Hawaii musicians speak about their musical careers and songs. I had a chance to walk around the Kahilu Theatre lobby where they had a rare selection of local artwork on display.
After the workshop and talk story session, we had a few hours before the performance. Back to the hotel and time to eat some sushi! We piled on the negi toro rolls and had a few cups of green tea before the show. Everyone was charged up and ready to go.
We met up with Jake at the hotel lobby where he was tuning and practicing for the performance. Only in Hawaii!!
The show was really unique. Jake called on stage a few fellow musicians to join in his set. He played a fantastic duet of My Life with Jeff Peterson...it was really awe-inspiring. And they all ended the night with the popular cover song Superstition.
