"Pretty much everybody who has watched Jake Shimabukuro in action claims that the Hawaiian-born musician is doing for the ukulele what Jimi Hendrix did for the electric guitar - except without all the unnecessary pyromania. "

The Hawaii County Band is an organization that has been in existence for over a hundred years. The County is planning to terminate their existence effective June 30. They do many things for the community. In addition to playing in the band, their members consist of music teachers, students, performers and long-time Hawai’i residents. They work with our students & perform at countless community events. Each year, they conduct the annual island Music Band Festival at which students of local schools perform.
According to a Feb 27, 2010 article by the Hawaii Tribune Herald, the expected savings from termination will amount to $347,027. Based on the County of Hawaii's total budget of $387 million, this savings represents less than a tenth of one percent.
